Objective of the Game

The main objective of Pokémon TCG is to defeat your opponent by either knocking out all of their Pokémon in play or by collecting all of your opponent's Prize Cards. Each player has a deck of cards consisting of Pokémon, Trainer cards, and Energy cards. Here are the basic steps to play:

Setup

  1. Build Your Deck: Each player must have a 60-card deck. You can include up to 4 cards with the same name in your deck, except for basic Energy cards, which have no limit.
  2. Choose an Active Pokémon: Both players select a Pokémon from their deck and place it in the play area as their Active Pokémon.
  3. Draw 6 Cards from Your Deck: Each player draws 6 cards from the top of their deck to form their starting hand.
  4. Place 6 Prize Cards: Each player places 6 cards face-down on the side of their play area as their Prize Cards. These cards are earned when a player knocks out one of their opponent's Pokémon.

Game Turns

The Pokémon TCG is played in alternating turns, with each player taking a series of actions on their turn:

  1. Draw a Card: At the beginning of your turn, you always draw a card from your deck.
  2. Perform One Action: You can take one of the following actions on your turn:
    • Attach an Energy: You can attach a basic Energy card from your hand to one of your Pokémon in play. This allows them to use their attacks.
    • Play a Trainer Card: You can play a Trainer card from your hand. These cards can have various effects, such as healing your Pokémon or searching for specific cards.
    • Attack: You can use one of your Active Pokémon's attacks if you have the required Energy attached.
  3. Attack the Opponent's Active Pokémon: After performing your actions, you can attack your opponent's Active Pokémon if you have enough Energy attached and your Pokémon is not affected by a Special Condition.
  4. End Your Turn: End your turn by moving any temporary effects and passing the turn to your opponent.
